Narration

I have completed my narration for my video. I have chosen to do the narration because as the girls are my age i believe that it fits well for it to have a girl voice and not my father's voice. There is room for improvement however, for example I will need to use a microphone in the real thing because the sound quality is not up to high standards. However it is a part and I am very pleased with it!

Story Boarding

I feel as if I need to have my music before I begin to story board. I think this will really help because then I can imagine what my characters will be doing and the different shots I can take. I have been looking at sound cloud and I think I have found my song. Tabitha was helping me also and she gave me a suggestion. She told me to listen to Smother by Daughter. As we are not aloud to copy right I have been listening to different covers made by people on sound cloud and I think I am going to choose  this cover.

Typical Synopsis

There are many different types of sub genre romantic films. I have picked three and I am going to go through each sub genre and give an example of each with the trailer to each movie.

Thriller

An example of a romantic thriller is 'Mr and Mrs Smith'. I have watched this movie so long ago so I am a bit rusty on it so I have taken the blurb from IMDb:

Plot Summery of 'Mr and Mrs Smith'

'A bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.' However they end up in love. The funny thing is that after this movie Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt ended up getting married and are still to this day - it was are a real romantic movie!

Actors
Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie

Awards
The movie won 9 awards and was nominated for 17, more information about this can be found here

Other examples of romantic thrillers:

Comedy

An example of this is the movie called 'Blended'. This movie is one of my very favourites. Adam Sandler is an amazing actor and to me has a great sense of humour! Most of his movies are 'rom-coms', this being one of his latest movies. He just released a new movie called 'Pixels' which I have not seen but I have heard great things about it.

Plot summary of Blended

After having a monstrous date, Jim and Lauren agree to never see each other again. However they end up finding each other in a Safari in Africa with their children. They end up falling in love.
The film is very heart warming and so funny. I would really recommend it!

Actors

Adam Sandler

Drew Barrymore

Awards
I was surprised to find that most of the nominations that this movie got were very negative. However the movie had 11 nominations. More information about what these nominations were can be found here.

Some More Examples of Adam Sandler's RomComs

Crime

An example of a romantic crime film is in fact 'Date Night'. This movie can be seen as a thriller and crime sub genre of romantic films as it involves guns, drugs and hunting people down and all of these things are seen in both sub genres.

Plot Summary of 'Date Night'

'In New York City, a case of mistaken identity turns a bored married couple's attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous.'. The couple go through a lot through out the film, trying to get away from the bad guys and end up getting themselves out of the horrible mess that they got into.

Actors

Steve Carell

Tina Fey

Green Screen

Tab, Lizzy and I were playing around with the green screen. There was no really reason why we were playing with it, mostly to show off our skills. There could be a possibility that I will use the green screen in my film opening so doing this is really helpful as I know know how to do it.

Psychographic

I ask two girls in year 12 and one of my young female teachers to answer some questions for me. This was so that I could get to grips with what my demographic like. I asked them up to eight questions these where:

  1. What is your favourite type of music?
  2. What is your favourite film?
  3. Do you go to the cinema, if so who with?
  4. Where do you shop for your clothes?
  5. What are your hobbies?
  6. What is your favourite holiday destination?
  7. What perfume do you use?
  8. Who is your favourite actor/actress?
  9. What is your favourite TV show?
All of these questions helped me so much because I now know great ways in which to promote my film opening. It also shows me what teenage girls like and their hobbies. I can include these things in my movie opening. Overall this was very helpful.
Here is a video of the interviews that I conducted:

My treatment

A treatment is:
'A film treatment (or simply treatment) is a piece of prose, typically the step between scene cards (index cards) and the first draft of a screenplay for a motion picture, television program, or radio play.'
In this I had to include: my title for my movie opening, the log line, the plot, my demographic, psychographic and my key characters. This really helped me have time to think about my idea in more depth. It was really useful as now I know more about what I am going to do and who my target audience are, so now I can shaped my opening around this.
Here is a video of me giving my presentation:

This is my prezi that I made:

And this is my script I was reading from:

My treatment for my film opening

Working Title
I have chosen this title because it foreshadows one of the main characters future.
It as so symbolises the fact that the character have to gasp for air as their life is now going to be so hectic after they have be given bad news.

Log Line
What would you do if your partner were told that they had terminal cancer? That is what happened Margo, her wife Penelope was diagnosed with lung cancer. In a tragic story that tested their relationship and effected both of their lifes for the worst.

Plot
Un like most plots this one does not have an equilibrium because at the beginning of this plot Margo and Penelope are awaiting news from a doctor. The plot actually starts with the disequilibrium. The news turns out to be bad, as Penelope has been informed that she has terminal cancer. The couple struggle through the movie as they come across obstacles – one event causes another event (causality) this then leading to them being in agreement that they should split up, however neither of them really want to. But in a twist of fait they come to find each other along their paths a few months later. Margo has found a new relationship however wants to be there for Penelope for her last few days or weeks that she has left. Margo then ruins her new relationship and spends Penelope’s last few days with her. A few days later Penelope passes away leaving Margo devastated.

I would say that they climax is when the two reunite however there is not really a resolution as the plot ends with a sad ending. However, you could argue that them reuniting is the resolution.

Demographic
I think a suitable rating for this movie would be a 15. Our target audience would be both males and females however this genre may appeal to females because it is a romantic film.
It also may appeal to an older audience because of the maturity – the fact that it involves cancer and people being in love.
British Film spoken in English however it can be sold in countries that speak English or we could incorporate subtitles so that we can sell more copies.

Psychographic
We could promote the movie by posting adds on websites and places that girls go to.  Baring in mind our older audience, we could get posters outside supermarkets.
We could also place poster and adds in train stations around the UK especially big city’s London.

Key Characters
As I am just creating the first two minutes of this film I will to need as many character of actors as you may be thinking. The two key characters would be Margo and Penelope. I would also need a narrator to do the voice over at the beginning of the film. And lastly a doctor that presents the two women with the news. My idea so far is that the first two minutes will have no dialogue just music. This, I believe will make the opening much more emotional.

However everything is not set in stone but it is bringing us one step closer to out final goal (click slide). I hope you believe in this idea as much as I do and will support me in making this film!

Interviews

I interviewed three girls my age to see what they like and dislike about films and their favourite genre of film. It was great to see that at least one of them was keen on romance films as that is my genre I have chosen for my film opening. They all agreed with me in saying that the type of music used in a movie is crucial as it sets the scene and type of emotion that the audience feel in that part of the movie. I have taken into consideration the things that the girls did not like about movies that made them boring. So as a result I will try to keep my film opening intreating and not boring. This was very useful for me!

My iMovie Skills

I went on D of E a few months ago and for the presentation I had to give my media skills a go and make a movie/shot video of our time. In this I had to incorporate, videos, pictures, adding text to videos and pictures, adding music and using slow motion (we ended up passing). So I thought I would show you my iMovie skills. So here is the video...

My Ideas On My Film Opening

I have made a Prezi to show my ideas and thoughts that I want to incorporate into my movie opening. I have also listed my inspirations.
Here it is...

Romantic Frame Analysis

My frame analysis is on The Devil Wears Prada. This is a classic romance film about 'A smart but sensible new graduate that lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, the demanding editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine'. However she has no fashion sense.
The first shot of Anne Hathaway brushing her teeth is a genetic chick flick shot of a girl who seems to be looking into a mirror however the camera acts as the mirror. The next shot is an establishing shot that shows where the movie is set. The next few close up shots reflect the way Anne Hathaway and the other women dress in comparison. The other women that already work for the company or are going to the same interview dress formal with designer labels. However Anne Hathaway dress as fast as she can and does not care about her appearance as much as the other girls. This can all be implied within in the shots of the women getting dressed.
